The Duke Blue Devis: I'm not a fair weather fan.

I decided to write my first post (since blogger had not been working for me) about Duke. I love the Duke Blue Devils, I have ever since 2001, when I was just beginning to watch college basketball with my dad, we turned on a Duke game late in the second half and these two teams I have never heard of, living in NY and being a fan of the Big East, Duke and Maryland were playing. Duke was losing by 10 points with 50 seconds remaining. OK, Maryland wins...boy was I wrong. Duke came back in what is known as the 50 second miracle and scored 10 points to tie the game and send it into overtime. I think Duke wound up losing that game, but scoring 10 points in 50 seconds was enough for me to fall in love.

I love everything about Duke- it's rich history, the players(JJ Redick, Shane Battier, Mike Dunleavly, Chris Duhon, Jay Williams, Lee Melchioni...to name a few of my favorites) the coach (Mike Krzyzewski), and just Duke it's self. All this being said, besides that first season I became a fan (2001) Duke hasn't won a National Championship since. The next 4 years (the JJ Redick Era) were filled with upsets and close calls. Bringing me to this season. Duke started out ranked extremely low because they lost their two power seniors JJ Redick and Shelden Williams. This was the first time in Duke history that two sophomores had been named captains. Everyone was underestimating Duke. However, they started to prove the critics wrong, coming out in the pre-season with a very strong record. Then came conference games- Duke started 0-2 for the first time since 1996. This would have been ad enough, except Duke then went on to win it's next couple of games. Then, the unthinkable happened- Duke lost AGAIN to Virginia. This wasn't as earth shattering though, because a few days later the disgusting, ugly, stupid Tar Heels lost as well, preserving Duke's standings in the ACC rankings.

Duke had a game tonight, where they led by as many as 17 points. They went on to lose this game, by 1. With 7.7 seconds left on the clock they had a missed lay-up and two missed tip ins. If you heard a blood curdling scream around 4:37pm that was me over in Brubacher yelling at the TV. Duke has now lost two in a row (again) and has their in-state rival North Carolina and in my opinion the biggest, and best rivalry in all of sports on Wednesday. Hopefully, losing two in a row is not sitting well with the Dukies and they will come back and annihilate the stupid idiots that comprise the North Carolina Tarheels....if not, I am prepared for the cruel teasing that will come at around 11:00pm on Wednesday.
